• Mr Happy's Garden (the making of…)

We thought we'd use our second blog post to take you behind the scenes at Humblesticks. Kind of a like a DVD extra but … without the DVD. Introducing 'Mr Happy's Garden (the making of)' ...

We only use natural fibre fabrics - great quality cottons and linens in amazing mouthwatering prints. The one we've picked today is Sorbet Pop Garden by Michael Miller.

Fabric, prepped with fire retardant lining. Let the drum (ring) roll begin…

Keeping 'em parallel really not so easy…

Tucking in the edge - small hands are a bonus…

    Ingenious tucking tool…

    Lampshade complete…

Choosing the fabric covered cable - we choose orange for maximum 70's nostalgia…

Lamp gubbins. We favour chrome lamp holders and black plugs and switches over white for old school quality…

One beautiful, chunky, 5 litre, recycled demijohn bottle, scrubbed of moonshine and about to be reinvented…

Drilling through glass is no mean feat…

Fitting a grommet to prevent the wire from moving and fraying against the glass…

Behold my glorious wire stripping - I am an elec tech geek…

Wiring the lamp holder - in this case the earth really shouldn't move…

One gorgeous industrial chrome finish lamp holder wired and sitting pretty…

Connecting the switch - fiddly little blighters these…

Switch wired either side - awaiting cover…

We all know how to wire a plug…don't we?

    Lamp fully fitted…

    The magic moment…

    Woo yeah!

    Mr Happy's Garden Demijohn Lamp...

... ready to go to a good home!

      Hi, your lamps look amazing!
Just a query abut the fitting. You mentioned you now use a rubber suction cork, what exactly is this and does this make it completely secure?
      Thanks, Leah.

      Hi Doug,

Thanks! We used to use glass glue and a plastic washer, but now we use a rubber suction cork which we think gives a better and very sturdy finish.

      Hi there,
Looks great. Out of interest how do you attached the lamp holder to the bottle? Looks like you have a plastic washer going on there.
      Thanks,
      Doug
